January 2016 Favourites

There are many great things about Winter (personally, I can’t name any but Christmas), but with it tends to come dry and dull skin, frizzy hair, and hands you want to hide in your gloves.  My January favourites happen to be products that help with all of these problems (plus a little glitz).  Let’s get to it!

1. Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer

I received a sample of this primer a few months ago, and didn’t start using it until recently.  With all the acne products I’ve been using, there have been days where my skin just needs some serious moisture (dry skin + makeup = not fun).  It applies more like a moisturizer, with a yummy, coconut scent.  As someone who has very oily skin, I typically go for a primer that will mattify.  But what I love about this primer is that it gives you a soft, dewy finish without the oil and shine.  It absorbed quickly on my skin and makeup applied easily over top.  This primer is silicone free (a common allergen), cruelty-free, and vegan friendly.

2. Jergens Shea Butter Deep Conditioning Moisturizer

While I typically tend to choose a moisturizer more based on scent than anything, this Winter I’ve been more focused on finding a high-quality product that soothes dryness and lasts all day long.  This moisturizer by Jergens does just that.  It’s got a soft, clean scent, a rich and luxurious consistency, and applies evenly.  I wasn’t sure it would live up to its claim of leaving skin more radiant, but it honestly does.  It leaves my skin with a dewy sheen, but dries quickly.

3. Tangle Teezer The Original Detangling Hairbrush

This brush is as fun to use as it looks.  On wet or dry hair, the soft, flexible bristles gently fight tangles while fitting perfectly into your hand (thanks to its ergonomic shape).  You can even bring it with you in the shower to comb through your conditioner or hair mask.  Because it requires less pulling or tugging than a normal hairbrush, you’ll notice less breakage and increased shine.  Even better? It comes in a variety of colour combinations.  Which one will you choose?

4. Olive and Piper Floret Crystal Studs

I promised glitz, didn’t I?  I received these earrings in my gift bag at the Spark Sessions blogger conference late last year, and have worn them countless time since.  I love that they have a vintage-inspired look, and that they dress up nearly any outfit.  I’ve paired mine with sweaters, dresses, even a leather jacket…I just can’t get enough!

5. FarmHouse Fresh Marshmallow Melt Shea Butter Hand Cream

This hand cream smells good enough to eat (even my boyfriend asked “what is that?”).  But aside from it smelling amazing, it’s also seriously effective, leaving my hands soft and easing any itchiness or dryness (I love applying this at night before bed).  You can purchase this cream in-store at Blossom Lounge in Toronto’s Distillery District (or online), and can choose from a variety of (adorably named) scents including “Fluffy Bunny” and “Front Porch Punch”.  The compact 2.4 oz size means you can keep one in your purse, your car, your bedside, and beyond!

Outfit Reveal: “She Who Hunts Finds” Challenge (Part 2)

Outfit Reveal

While I’m a true Summer girl at heart, I have to admit I love Fall fashion: the colours, the cozy fabrics, and the layering.  I knew that for this challenge, I wanted to create an outfit that encompassed all of these things.  My first stop upon arriving at Dixie Outlet Mall last Saturday morning was Winners.  I’m a huge fan of Winners and I always seem to find great deals at the Dixie Outlet Mall location.

At Winners, I scored this gorgeous pocketed red and black vest.  I loved that it was a little edgy and lumberjack-inspired, but in a girly way with its beautiful draping and cozy fabric.  This vest retails for $70.00, but I scored it for just $39.99! I love that you can wear it as a chic cape as well (shown below).

The vest was the piece that inspired the rest of my outfit (I found it within 5 minutes of entering the mall!).  Since I styled a fun jumpsuit for the Spring challenge, I knew this time I wanted to purchase a classic dress: something that could be worn to work, an event, or a night on the town.  I found this Cynthia Rowley dress at Winners.  It’s a thick (and super forgiving) fabric, with a classy length, and pockets (need I say more!?).  Even better? This dress is an outfit in itself! It retails for $80.00, but I scored it for just $39.99.

With the dress and vest purchased, my next stop was to grab a fun statement necklace (not a surprise if you know me well).  I wanted something colourful, but not something that would compete too much with the patterned vest.  I found this fun red statement necklace at Payless Shoe Source for just $4.00 (regular $19.99).

On to Claire’s, where I purchased a pair of earrings, and a cute set of midi rings.  I knew I wanted to go with stud earrings, so as to not take away from the necklace-and-vest combo.  I decided to go with this set of earrings (which came with a third pair as well).  I thought it would be a cute touch to include a pair of leaf earrings: so very Fall inspired!  The rings were just a fun extra, and I loved that they were simple and understated.   The set of 2 rings, and the set of 3 earrings were both $2.00 each (regular $4.00 and $12.00, respectively).

For a purse, I headed to Danier with the intention of purchasing a cute neutral clutch.  I spotted this chic over-the-shoulder bag (on sale!), and fell in the love with the tassel detail, and the fact that you can wear it multiple ways.  This leather bag retails for $129.00, but I scored it for just $47.99!

Finally, my trip to Dixie Outlet Mall came full circle, and I finished back where I started: at Winners.  I purchased these super comfy open-back black booties that I’d eyed in the morning, and couldn’t get out of my mind.  These retail for $55.00, and I purchased them for $39.99.

Overall, I spent $198.84 and saved a total of $194.03!  My Eagle shopping persona definitely held true as I made my way around the mall: I knew what I wanted, and I wouldn’t stop until I found it (I was there open-to-close!).  I’m super excited with my #DixieDeals, and am looking forward to wearing this outfit to work or a date (hayride or fall festival, anyone?).  What would you buy with $200.00 at Dixie Outlet Mall? Check back soon for a chance to win your own shopping spree!

This Counts: Shopping with a Purpose (+Giveaway!)

This Counts 6

A running joke with my boyfriend is that I “fake online shop”: I sometimes browse a website, put all of my wishlist items in my cart, and then walk away because the shipping charges are outrageous. So, one of the things I instantly loved when introduced to a Canadian e-commerce retail site, This Counts, was that they offer free shipping on all items (AND all listed prices include taxes!). What I love even more than the free shipping, is what the site stands for: giving back. A portion of the sale of every single item goes to a charity supported by the retailer: with every purchase you make, you’re changing and saving lives around the world.  And, if you’re curious to see which charity the retailer supports, just click on the item to find out!

On the This Counts site, you can easily share items, and create boards to keep track of your wishlists (which you’ll want to do, as the site continues to grow everyday!).  You can shop by store, by item, or by collection.  There’s something to be found for everyone: from electronics, to men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, to home decor.  They have a wide variety of pieces ranging from classic to super unique, and their prices are extremely reasonable.  Curious to know what’s on my wishlist?  I thought you’d never ask (keep reading for a giveaway and promo code!).

Let’s be honest, sometimes navigating the inside of our purses can seem….puzzling.  How awesome is this Rubiks Cube Purse (supporting the Breakfast Club of Canada)!?

I’ve mentioned before that I’m in love with anything palm-trees or flamingos.  These Dessert Palm Earrings (supporting the Breakfast Club of Canada) are no exception!

This Counts 2

Is there anyone who doesn’t love Ryan Gosling (who just happens to be from my hometown)? I’m picturing this “Run for Ryan Gosling Tee” (supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities) paired with a chic statement necklace (or some cozy sweats).

This Counts 3

We’ve all seen the stereotypical heart-shaped ring, but how about this amazing “Lifeline Heartbeat Ring” (supporting the Breakfast Club of Canada)?! My heart races just looking at it.

This Counts 4

Don’t get me wrong, I love my iPad, but sometimes I just want to read a good old-fashioned hard copy book.  This “Once Upon a Time” bookmark set ensures you won’t lose your page, and is a gorgeous conversation piece.

Colour Love: Cobalt Blue

Royal Blue

I’ve likely mentioned this in previous posts, but hey, what’s one more time?  Cobalt (or “royal”) blue is my absolute favourite colour.  It’s universal, complimenting nearly every skin tone or hair colour, and can be worn year-round.  Looking for some inspiration? Just Google Kate Middleton.  And, while I may never be royal (pun intended),  it’s kind of fun to dress like one, right?!  Here are some of my current cobalt favourites, from jewelry, to clothing, to makeup.

1. K-Mart: Attention Women’s Button-Front Blouse in “Sparkling Ocean” $12.00

I’d been eyeing this shirt for a while, and was excited to find it on sale during a recent cross-border shopping trip!

2. Sephora Collection Colorful Waterproof Eyeliner 24 HR Wear in “Pool Party” $15.00

Use this to add pizazz to a smoky eye, or wear alone with mascara.  Vibrant, pigmented colour that lasts all day!

3. Whet Nail Polish in “Facetious” $15.00

Paired with a glossy top-coat, 2 coats goes on smoothly and gives you rich, intense colour.

4. Pier 1 Beaded Cuff Bracelet $12.00

I love this cuff bracelet; gold pairs so beautifully with royal blue.  Wear it lower on your wrist, or closer to your elbow for an even more “Grecian” feel.

5. Tassel Earrings $3.99

I love both the look and the price of these adorable earrings.  I paired mine with wavy hair, but they’d look great with an updo, too!  What’s even more fun? Shopping at the store they came from.  A unique concept of food and fashion, Tou Jours offers great prices, friendly staff, and ensures you’re never shopping on an empty stomach!

#DealOfTheDay J.Crew Statement Earrings

J.Crew Statement Earrings

I scored these gorgeous “Dangling Seaside Earrings” yesterday at a J.Crew Factory store (I’ve always loved J.Crew’s statement jewelry pieces and couldn’t walk away from these!). Regulary $34.50 (CDN), on for $14.97 and then an additional 60% off, these stunners rang up at just $5.99. I then received an additional 15% off using a membership discount, and purchased them for just $5.09!  You can purchase them online here, or check out some of my previous J. Crew scores here!

New Favourite Alert! Cascading Hoop Earrings

Hang With Me Earrings 2

I saw these “Hang With Me Earrings” in the mark. magalogue, and knew I had to have them.  I’m already a fan of hoop earrings: they’re classy and extremely versatile, so I love this fun spin on the “simple gold hoop”.  Cascading chains add a unique, bohemian vibe to these oversized gold hoops (diameter is around 5cm), and the nickel-free posts ensure your ears don’t get irritated after 5 minutes of wearing them. These Summer-ready earrings can be worn for work or play, and would look great paired with a high topknot or soft curls.

You can purchase the earrings for $26.00 through your local Avon representative, or online here.

Beautiful Things for Spring: Jewellery Haul

Haul2

When it comes to jewellery, I’ve always leaned more towards colourful, affordable fashion pieces, and over the last few weeks, I’ve accumulated some new items to add to my collection.  I did some in-store shopping at J.Crew and Winners, and some online shopping at JustFab.  More info on my finds, below!

J.Crew Floral Stud Earrings

JCrew Earrings

Lately, I’ve been loving oversized, shiny studs, and when I saw these in-store, I knew I had to have them (unfortunately, I can’t seem to find them online).  What I love about these earrings is that you can pair them with a cocktail dress, and they’ll look classic and elegant, but you can also wear them to help dress up simple skinny jeans and a t-shirt.  Another thing I love about them, is that the earring backs are incredibly durable and sturdy.  (Regular price: $46.00 CDN, on sale for 25% off).

J.Crew “Brass and crystal petal bracelet”

JCrew Bracelet JCrew Bracelet2

I was at the checkout paying for my new earrings, above, when I saw the sales associate wearing this gorgeous bracelet.  I was pleasantly surprised to find that they still had them in-store, and even more excited that it was on sale! Regular $90.00 CDN, on sale for $49.99, then marked down an additional 40% off, I scored this baby for only $29.99!  Made of brass with glass stones, I almost found it to be Lady Gaga-esque (am I crazy?).  I also love that the adjustable length allowed it to fit my (ridiculously) small wrists.

Just Fab “Gypset” Statement Ring

Just Fab Ring

Known for their stylish and affordable shoes ($39.99 a pair, learn more here), Justfab.ca also offers fun purses, jewellery, and accessories.  As a member/email subscriber, I recently received a $10.00 store credit, and decided to give their website a browse.  I came across this statement ring (which comes in both silver and gold), and after reading all the positive reviews, decided to add it to my cart.  I love that it looks like two rings, when actually, it is x-shaped at the back, which holds it together (yes, it is quite comfortable, and yes, I can still bend my finger).  Did I also mention it is extremely reasonably priced at just $6.95?!

Just Fab “Sharp End” Bracelet in Gold/Fuchsia

Just Fab Bracelet

I’m always on the lookout for layering pieces, so when I spotted this hot-pink and gold bracelet, I couldn’t help but daydream about how nice it would look paired with a gold watch (does anyone else do this too?…maybe not).  Again, the adjustable sizing allows it to fit my small wrists, and for the price (only $9.95), it is quite durable.  If the colour pink isn’t your thing, it also comes in a really cute white/gold combo.

Winners “Natasha” Statement Earrings

Winners Earrings

Winners (similar to the US “T.J. Maxx”) offers brand names at lower prices on a per-store basis.  Because of this, I can’t find them online, but I can say that Winners has a ton of great statement necklaces and earrings in-store right now.  I purchased these earrings for 2 reasons: 1. because they’re shiny and beautiful and I had to have them (typical girl, right?), and 2. because royal blue is my absolute favourite colour.  At just $14.99, these earrings are a bargain that I’ll be sure to get a lot of use out of.
