Farmacy Lip Blooms: Natural Ingredients for Soft, Smooth Lips

A good lip balm is hard to find.  You want something that moisturizes and protects your lips, but also one that looks and feels nice (and if it can double as a lipstick or gloss, even better!).  Personally, I use lip balms around the clock: before bed to moisturize overnight, in the morning to prep my lips for lipstick, and during the day to revive my lip colour.

I was presented with the opportunity to review Farmacy Beauty’s Lip Bloom in “Lavender Mint”, and was excited to give it a try.  I’ve seen their products at Sephora, and have heard great things about their skincare made from farm-grown, hand-picked ingredients.  Their trademarked ingredient (and one that can be found in their Lip Blooms) is Echinacea GreenEnvy (a variant of Echinacea Purpurea), which is a natural antioxidant that helps protect and firm the skin, and inhibit collagen breakdown.  In fact, the Echinacea GreenEnvy is cultivated in upstate New York and travels only 2 hours to the Farmacy lab, where it is then cold-pressed.  Farmacy’s Lip Blooms also contain Castor Seed Oil and Sunflower Seed Oil for hydration, smoothness, and protection of the delicate skin on the lips.

So what do I think of the Lavender Mint Lip Bloom? Aside from the pretty (not overpowering) scent, what I love most about this product is its versatility.  You can wear it as a lip balm on its own, pair it over top of a lipstick for a glossy shine, or even wear it on the eyelids over top or underneath eye shadow for a high-fashion, dewy finish.  The packaging is simple, chic, and compact, making it perfect to throw in your purse or makeup bag.  It applies smoothly and evenly, is a nice (not sticky) consistency, and leaves lips feeling soft and moisturized.

Lip Blooms are available for purchase on the Farmacy Beauty website and also in-store and online at Sephora.  Other flavours include Strawberry Basil, Honey Ginger, Vanilla Mint, Citrus Lemongrass, and Apple Rosemary. Yum!

Have you tried Farmacy’s Lip Blooms, or any of their other products?  Let me know in the comments below!

The Perfect Pout (Just in time for Valentine’s Day!)

Valentine

One of the girliest days of the year is just a week away, and whether you’ve penciled in a hot date, or a night out on the town with the girls, consider these your essentials for your prettiest pout yet.

Step 1: Exfoliate

Nothing ruins a gorgeous lip colour quite like dry, flaky skin beneath it.  Prep your lips by exfoliating them with a toothbrush, or with this Sugar Lip Polish by Fresh.  Made with real brown sugar, this polish tastes as good as it will make your lips feel.

Step 2: Moisturize

Aside from applying at bedtime, I like to swipe on some moisturizer at the beginning of my makeup routine, allowing it time to soak in.  I then wipe off any excess (or wear as-is depending on the day), and follow with other lip products.  This Creme de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm by Dior makes your lips feel incredible (and can we note the festive “rose” scent? So very Valentine’s Day).

Step 3: Prime

Once you’ve given your moisturizer some time to work its magic, prime lips using your foundation, or this Lip Insurance Lip Primer by Too Faced.  This not only helps prevent creasing and feathering, it also ensures your lipstick or lip gloss stays as true-to-colour as possible.

Step 4: Line

In the word of makeup, I don’t think lip liners receive nearly the credit that they deserve.  Yes, they prevent feathering and “bleeding” (essentially, looking like you coloured outside the lines), but they also make your lip colour last considerably longer.  If you’re looking for long-wear, carefully line your lips with a colour in the same family as the lipstick you’ll be using, then finish by colouring within the lines.  If you’re simply looking to prevent any unwanted shifting or creasing, try No Bleeding Lips-Secret Lip Liner by No Cosmetics.  This product is clear, so you don’t need to worry about matching it to your lip colour or gloss, and it also acts as a temporary filler for those who have deeper lines around the lips.

Step 5: Colour

Probably my favourite step of all, is applying the colour that finishes off the look.  For Valentine’s Day, my pick is Buxom Full Bodied Lipstick in Mistress.  A gorgeous pink with a satin finish, this lipstick offers full coverage and gently plumps lips as you wear.  Apply your lip colour, blot with a tissue, and finish with gloss if your heart desires (pun intended!).

Supermodel in a Bottle?! Victoria’s Secret Rockin’ Body Perfecting Cream

Rockin Body Perfecting Cream

I know what you’re thinking…another gimmick that claims to make you instantly look like a model (even more, a Victoria’s Secret one). I thought so to, but just to be sure, I purchased this highly-coveted and recently re-released body lotion. It retails for $14.00, but you can find it on websites, such as Ebay or Amazon, selling for much more (because up until recently it was a limited edition product).

Essentially, Victoria’s Secret Rockin’ Body Perfecting Cream is a tinted lotion with subtle shimmer that claims to even out tone, moisturize skin (with vitamin E and shea butter), and give your body that “supermodel glow” (courtesy of diamond powder).

I recently attended an event (one that was a little fancier than my typical pajamas-and-a-movie kind of night), and felt it was the perfect opportunity to try this product out. Aside from smelling amazing, it applied evenly and had a nice, subtle finish. My original concern was that I would look like a Twilight character due to too much shimmer, but I was pleasantly surprised. The only downside is that the product is quite thick, and so while it is very moisturizing, I needed to use a fair amount to cover my arms and legs (you can use it on your décolleté as well). The lotion also has a perfect amount of tint to it, so you won’t have to worry about looking like a faux-tan gone wrong. I was also happy to see that not a single bit of product transferred onto my clothes throughout the night (I waited 5 minutes after applying prior to getting dressed, just to be safe).

All in all, I can’t say that I’ll be a supermodel any time soon (I’m 5’4” and enjoy carbs way too much), but I can say that this product is a great alternative to pantyhose, and gives a similar even-toned look. Definitely recommend!
