The beginning of September means that Summer is slowly coming to an end (but hey, all the more reason to enjoy every minute of the remaining 20 days of the season!). Here are some of my fashion, beauty, and entertainment favourites for the past 2 months.
I’d been wanting to try these shorts for a while, and it wasn’t until a recent embarrassing (and slightly traumatizing) experience that I finally got my hands on them. To explain, let me use a simple equation: a windy day + a lightweight dress + bending over to adjust your shoe before getting in the car = showing your neighbours more than they want to see. Anyways, these shorts are the answer to many of my fashion-prayers: 1. they can be worn as an extra layer under sheer dresses, 2. the smooth fabric doesn’t catch on clothing and can be worn under pants, skirts, and dresses, 3. they provide a smoothing effect without cutting off circulation or hindering your breathing, and 4. they provide an extra layer of security under short (or lightweight) dresses. They come in a variety of colours and 2 lengths (I purchased mine in the short length in both nude and black). Check out Jockey’s website here.
It took me quite some time to hop on the Beauty Blender train, but I’m sure glad I did! I think some people, such as myself, are little hesitant due to the $26.00 price tag, but the results of using this teardrop shaped sponge are definitely worth every penny. While you can use this sponge with a variety of products (blushes, powders, and etcetera), my favourite use for it is with liquid foundation. Basically, you dampen the sponge (it nearly doubles in size), squeeze all water out of it, and then apply your foundation in a dabbing motion: the result is a finish similar to airbrush makeup. You can check out the video on Sephora’s website to learn more.
This long-sleeve crew sweatshirt is one of the comfiest items of clothing I own (I purchased mine in royal blue at the semi-annual sale). It’s more lightweight than a hoodie, and has a longer length that can be paired with leggings. Pink is constantly coming out with new styles and colours, so be sure to check in store as well as online!
I originally received this lipstick in a sample-size during a Sephora promotion. It has a “good for your lips” formulation that includes shea butter and coconut oil, and the colour is a rich, pigmented, beautiful pink suitable for everyday wear. While the sample-size was generous and is still kicking, I fully intend on purchasing the full-size in the near future!
I’ve been loving the bar bracelet and necklace trend; there’s just something so simple and elegant about it. The greatest challenge I face however, is finding a bracelet that fits my super-small wrists. Luckily, when I spotted this beauty (on sale for 50% off) at the Canadian National Exhibition, the sales associate was kind enough to adjust the length for me on the spot. Made of sterling silver coated with 14K white gold, and accented with Austrian crystals, it is dainty enough to wear on its own, or will pair perfectly with a watch or other bracelets. Check out other pretty things from Isis Jewels here.
Sadly, I can’t take credit for discovering this gorgeous lipstick/lipgloss hybrid. In fact, when I was having my makeup done at Sephora and the artist chose it, I was secretly pouting inside because it seemed so…boring. However, I was pleasantly surprised once she put it on. It is one of the prettiest nudey-pinks I’ve ever seen! I was also impressed by its long-wear: I only need to touch up my lips once the whole night (you can see a picture of it on, here). Other colours I intend on trying? Trompre L’Oeil and Wonderland.
While most of my favourites are usually fashion and beauty related, this television series was a must-have for July and August. I started watching it last month during my road trip to Nova Scotia, and have been hooked ever since. Season 1 and 2 are available on Netflix, and if you fall in love with the music like I did, the soundtracks can be purchased on iTunes!
