How I Style: Statement Necklaces

Statement Necklace

It’s no secret that statement necklaces are a wardrobe staple of mine.  T-shirts, dresses, sweatshirts: necklines just look that much better with a gorgeous, sparkly piece around them.  What I also love about a good statement necklace, is its versatility: work, date night or a lazy Sunday, there’s one for every possible occasion.

Enter the stunner featured in the pictures below, from Cards and Presents in Toronto (check them out on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter).  I highly recommend this necklace: it is of great quality and has a strong lobster-clasp closure.  This beauty (in my favourite colour) retails for $20.00 Cdn +tax, and can be purchased in-person at Cards and Presents’ location in Toronto (245 Queen Street West; you can’t miss the pink storefront!).  Or, you can purchase it from their new online store, which launched October 1st (don’t you just love being able to shop in your yoga pants?!).  Use code “CANSHIP” for free shipping within Canada until November 15th!

Check out the different ways I like to wear this necklace below, and visit me on Instagram at  @elyse270 to see some additional pics.  Let’s get started!

1. Work

Feel like it just takes too much effort to stumble out of bed and get ready for work most mornings?  You can sleep in, put your hair in a ponytail, pop on a sparkly necklace, and you’re insta-glam. Problem solved.  Pair it with dress pants and a simple tee, and you’re good to go.

2. Weekend

When it comes to the weekend, I’m all about keeping my outfit simple and comfy.  I also love the idea of pairing a statement necklace with these comfier clothes; it makes you feel a little more put-together in your leggings or flowy maxi skirt.

 3. A Night Out

To me, date night or a night out on the town is a fun event, and so I think your outfit should follow suit.  Now is the time to wear all the things you can’t wear to work on a daily basis: leggings, tighter fitting clothing, or denim.  It’s also the perfect opportunity to throw on a glitzy piece of statement jewelry, and hit the town!

The Look for Less: Ray-Ban Inspired Pendant

The Look for Less

I couldn’t help but fall in love with the adorable Ran-Ban inspired necklace Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting wore for her Cosmopolitan cover shoot (May 2014 issue).  The subtext stated that the necklace was by “Jason of Beverly Hills”, but listed no price (most of us know that’s typically code for “expensive”).  You can check out the version Kaley is wearing here; no price is listed on their website either, but the white-diamond detailing leads me to believe it’s probably more than I’d hope (or could afford) to spend.

Fast forward to a quaint street festival I visited during my recent vacation to Nova Scotia.  My eyes scanned over a sea of cute pendants: infinity symbols, dolphins, hearts…aviator sunglasses!! I don’t think I could get them in my hands fast enough.  While they are a little different from Kaley’s, the concept is much the same.  Like Kaley’s version, the pendant is on a silver ball-chain, and the back of the sunglasses have “arms”, making the pendant 3-D.  The main differences are that mine are sans diamonds (or even cubic zirconia), and are in the style of aviators instead of wayfarers (which I love since I prefer, and actually wear, aviators anyway).  My cute new pendant cost me just $15.00 (doesn’t get more budget-friendly than that!).  While the shop I purchased them from doesn’t have a website, you can find a large selection of reasonably priced sunglass pendants on Etsy here!
