Year-End Gift Ideas for Teachers Featuring Foxy Originals (+Giveaway!)

When I learned that one of my favourite Canadian jewelry brands, Foxy Originals, created a teacher-inspired collection, I just knew I had to share.  A love of teaching is something I’ve always held close to my heart, (I originally went to school to be one, after all!).  I think it’s such a kind and meaningful gesture to give back to a teacher who’s made a difference in your year (or perhaps your life).

Foxy Originals have created 2 necklace designs (both of which come in gold or silver), that arrive ready-to-gift on a card that reads “Live. Love. Teach”.

The Inspire Teacher Necklace reads “Inspire” one one side of a circle charm (1.38″ diameter), and “Live Love Teach” on the opposite side.  This necklace comes on a 17″ chain is just $20.00 Cdn.

The second necklace (and my personal favourite) is the Teacher’s Charm Necklace.  The front of the charm (1.25″ x 0.75″) reads, “It takes a big heart to teach little minds”, and the back reads, “Live Love Teach”.  Also on this necklace is a tiny heart charm, and small beaded charm.  This necklace is also on a 17″ chain, and retails for $25.00 Cdn.

Both of these necklaces are made from fine pewter, and are then plated in gold or silver.  Every item Foxy Originals makes is lead-free and is produced locally.  Both of these necklaces are affordable, meaningful, and versatile gift ideas (you can wear each of them 2 ways!) that a teacher will truly appreciate and use.  They’re also great for dance teachers, singing teachers, and beyond!

Giveaway!

Foxy Originals has generously offered to host a giveaway of their Teacher’s Charm Necklace in gold to one of my readers!  To enter, simply click the “a Rafflecopter giveaway” link below and follow the instructions.  This giveaway is open to residents of Canada only, and will close on Tuesday, June 14th at 11:59pm EST. February/March 2016 Favourites!

Happy Easter! It’s hard to believe that the end of March is already upon us, and Spring has finally arrived. Here are some of the things I’ve been loving for the past couple of months:

1. Yankee Candle Company Tumbler Candle in “Chocolate Layer Cake”

If you want your house to smell like the most delicious chocolate cake ever baked (who doesn’t?), this is for you.  It’s rich, decadent, and incredibly fragrant (you can smell it without even lighting it!).  I purchased this candle along with an adorable cake-stand holder (that I featured on Instagram here) for Valentine’s Day, but I plan on burning this candle through Easter and beyond.

2.  NYX Micro Brow Pencil in “Ash Brown”

I’ve mentioned my love for the Anastasia Brow Wiz in a previous favourites post, and it’s still one of my favourite brow products to date.  Late last year, I attended the grand opening of the NYX store in Square One Shopping Centre, and decided to try out their Micro Brow Pencil.  It’s very similar to the Brow Wiz in performance and design (one side is a thin retractable pencil, and the other is a spooley), but it’s a fraction of the cost at just $12.00 (Brow Wiz is $27.00)!

3. Physicians Formula Argan Wear Ultra-Nourishing Argan Oil Bronzer

I received this product in a gift bag during last year’s Spark Sessions conference and stored it away in my “products to try” drawer.  Recently, the life of my beloved Nars Bronzing Powder in “Laguna” came to an end, and I decided it was time to take this product for a test drive.  Truthfully, I was a little intimidated at first by the layer of gold shimmer on top (I’ve never been one for sparkle in my face makeup).  I simply took a tissue, and was relieved to discover it was simply a light layer on top of the product (for presentation purposes I’m assuming; it’s beautiful!). Once the gold sparkles were removed, the product applied beautifully and evenly, and created a subtle glow on the skin.  As the name suggests, this bronzer is actually infused with 100% Pure Argan Oil, which nourishes, conditions, and brightens skin.  It comes with a mirror and small brush, but I prefer to apply mine with a big, fluffy one.  You can purchase this product right now on Well.ca for just $13.99 (the Nars bronzer is $52.00)!

4. “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing” by Marie Kondo

I don’t get to read as often as I’d like to (time: there’s just never enough of it!), but occasionally, I ‘ll find a book that sparks my interest and I’ll slowly make my way through it after work or before bed.  I’d seen this book in stores and on social media, but was curious to read it for myself after checking out an article on a mother who had implemented the practices of this book on her home.  It’s undeniable to me, how many things we (more specifically, I), own that we keep “just because”.  The premise of this book is that you should declutter your life, keeping only things that “spark joy”: that, when you hold them, make you truly happy.  It seems like such a simple, almost obvious, concept when it comes to cleaning, but it’s one that is so easily and commonly overlooked.  This book is a short, easy read that’s definitely worth checking out.

5. Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil of Morocco 3 Day Smooth Perfect Blow Dry Smoothing Cream

Now, that is a mouthful!  Using the power of Argan Oil, this product promises to hold hair “straight, frizz-free and shiny for up to 3 days”.  I’ve never really been one to use a blow dry cream, but received a sample in my monthly Ipsy Glam Bag, and decided to give it a try.  I really do notice that my blowout lasts significantly longer when I use this product.  My hair stays smoother, has less fly-aways, and is easier to manage.  I simply apply it when my hair is damp, focusing mainly on the ends of my hair.  This product is made for all hair types, and, if your hair tends to be especially frizzy, you can even reapply to to dry hair on days 2 or 3 for touch-ups.

Gift Guide Day 9: A Luxury Balm for your Lips (and Beyond!)

GG 2015-9

With the colder temperatures (and the mistletoe), a great lip balm is a must.  Today’s gift, Henné Organics Luxury Organic Lip Balm, is not only an amazing (trust me!) lip product, it can also be used for hands, elbows, heels, and more!  Made with coconut oil, shea butter, avocado oil, and beeswax, it’s certified organic and contains 99% organic ingredients.  It’s long lasting, non-greasy, and feels light-weight on your lips or skin.  This product is a luxe gift that anyone will enjoy, and because it’s colourless, it’s great for men, too!  You can purchase this product online (free shipping on orders $75+) or in-store at Blossom Lounge in Toronto’s Distillery District.

Outfit Reveal: “She Who Hunts Finds” Challenge (Part 2)

Outfit Reveal

While I’m a true Summer girl at heart, I have to admit I love Fall fashion: the colours, the cozy fabrics, and the layering.  I knew that for this challenge, I wanted to create an outfit that encompassed all of these things.  My first stop upon arriving at Dixie Outlet Mall last Saturday morning was Winners.  I’m a huge fan of Winners and I always seem to find great deals at the Dixie Outlet Mall location.

At Winners, I scored this gorgeous pocketed red and black vest.  I loved that it was a little edgy and lumberjack-inspired, but in a girly way with its beautiful draping and cozy fabric.  This vest retails for $70.00, but I scored it for just $39.99! I love that you can wear it as a chic cape as well (shown below).

The vest was the piece that inspired the rest of my outfit (I found it within 5 minutes of entering the mall!).  Since I styled a fun jumpsuit for the Spring challenge, I knew this time I wanted to purchase a classic dress: something that could be worn to work, an event, or a night on the town.  I found this Cynthia Rowley dress at Winners.  It’s a thick (and super forgiving) fabric, with a classy length, and pockets (need I say more!?).  Even better? This dress is an outfit in itself! It retails for $80.00, but I scored it for just $39.99.

With the dress and vest purchased, my next stop was to grab a fun statement necklace (not a surprise if you know me well).  I wanted something colourful, but not something that would compete too much with the patterned vest.  I found this fun red statement necklace at Payless Shoe Source for just $4.00 (regular $19.99).

On to Claire’s, where I purchased a pair of earrings, and a cute set of midi rings.  I knew I wanted to go with stud earrings, so as to not take away from the necklace-and-vest combo.  I decided to go with this set of earrings (which came with a third pair as well).  I thought it would be a cute touch to include a pair of leaf earrings: so very Fall inspired!  The rings were just a fun extra, and I loved that they were simple and understated.   The set of 2 rings, and the set of 3 earrings were both $2.00 each (regular $4.00 and $12.00, respectively).

For a purse, I headed to Danier with the intention of purchasing a cute neutral clutch.  I spotted this chic over-the-shoulder bag (on sale!), and fell in the love with the tassel detail, and the fact that you can wear it multiple ways.  This leather bag retails for $129.00, but I scored it for just $47.99!

Finally, my trip to Dixie Outlet Mall came full circle, and I finished back where I started: at Winners.  I purchased these super comfy open-back black booties that I’d eyed in the morning, and couldn’t get out of my mind.  These retail for $55.00, and I purchased them for $39.99.

Overall, I spent $198.84 and saved a total of $194.03!  My Eagle shopping persona definitely held true as I made my way around the mall: I knew what I wanted, and I wouldn’t stop until I found it (I was there open-to-close!).  I’m super excited with my #DixieDeals, and am looking forward to wearing this outfit to work or a date (hayride or fall festival, anyone?).  What would you buy with $200.00 at Dixie Outlet Mall? Check back soon for a chance to win your own shopping spree!

Deal Hunting at Dixie Outlet Mall: My Experience

Dixie Adventure

You know the saying, “like a kid in a candy store”?  When it comes to my recent shopping experience at Dixie Outlet Mall (to complete the She Who Hunts Finds Blogger Challenge), this seems like a pretty accurate metaphor.  There were over 130 stores to visit, and I took on nearly every single one of them.

Upon entering the mall, I was excited to spot one of my favourite stores, Aldo Outlet, and was even more excited to discover that many pairs of shoes were on sale for an additional 50% off!  More amazing deals were to be had at some my other favourites: Winners, Laura Outlet, Nine West Shoe Studio, and the Sears Outlet, where I purchased the amazing studded kitten heels pictured above for $14.99 (note: these are not part of my Blogger Challenge outfit; I just couldn’t help but share)!

What I love about Dixie Outlet Mall is that there is something to be found for everyone: men, women, kids, and beyond.  You can score amazing finds at extremely affordable prices, and the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable (enclosed shopping = protection from the rain or snow!).

I thoroughly enjoyed my shopping experience, and couldn’t be more excited to share my final outfit reveal with you all; be sure to stay tuned over the next week or so!  And don’t forget, there may just be a giveaway in the near future (hint, hint!).

“She Who Hunts Finds”: Blogger Challenge at Dixie Outlet Mall

She Who Hunts Finds

In case the name of my blog doesn’t give it away, I live for the “find”: that feeling you get when you score a pair of shoes for a fraction of the regular retail price, or when you spot from afar the red “sale” sticker on a dress, and instantly your pace picks up (it counts as cardio, ladies).  Luckily, there’s a place for people like me and my fellow deal-hunters: Dixie Outlet Mall.

Located in Mississauga, Ontario (along the Queen Elizabeth Highway), Dixie Outlet Mall is one of Canada’s largest enclosed outlet shopping centers, with over 130 stores.  Some of my personal favourites?  Winners, Nine West Shoe Studio, Danier Leather, Levi’s Outlet and Aldo Outlet.

I’ve frequented Dixie Outlet Mall for as long as I can remember, always ensuring no good #DixieDeals go un-hunted.  So, when I was contacted to participate in their “She Who Hunts Finds” challenge, I knew it was a match made in shopping-heaven (I also started counting down the sleeps, Christmas-style).

What’s the challenge you ask?  With a $200.00 Dixie Outlet Mall gift card in hand, purchase a fabulous Spring outfit and save as much money off the full retail price as possible.

Keep an eye out for my posts (blog, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook) in the coming weeks to read all about my shopping experience at Dixie Outlet Mall, see my final outfit reveal, and enter for your chance to win your own $200.00 gift card! Don’t forget to follow Dixie Outlet Mall, too! (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest)

Let the hunt begin…

How I Style: Statement Necklaces

Statement Necklace

It’s no secret that statement necklaces are a wardrobe staple of mine.  T-shirts, dresses, sweatshirts: necklines just look that much better with a gorgeous, sparkly piece around them.  What I also love about a good statement necklace, is its versatility: work, date night or a lazy Sunday, there’s one for every possible occasion.

Enter the stunner featured in the pictures below, from Cards and Presents in Toronto (check them out on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter).  I highly recommend this necklace: it is of great quality and has a strong lobster-clasp closure.  This beauty (in my favourite colour) retails for $20.00 Cdn +tax, and can be purchased in-person at Cards and Presents’ location in Toronto (245 Queen Street West; you can’t miss the pink storefront!).  Or, you can purchase it from their new online store, which launched October 1st (don’t you just love being able to shop in your yoga pants?!).  Use code “CANSHIP” for free shipping within Canada until November 15th!

Check out the different ways I like to wear this necklace below, and visit me on Instagram at  @elyse270 to see some additional pics.  Let’s get started!

1. Work

Feel like it just takes too much effort to stumble out of bed and get ready for work most mornings?  You can sleep in, put your hair in a ponytail, pop on a sparkly necklace, and you’re insta-glam. Problem solved.  Pair it with dress pants and a simple tee, and you’re good to go.

2. Weekend

When it comes to the weekend, I’m all about keeping my outfit simple and comfy.  I also love the idea of pairing a statement necklace with these comfier clothes; it makes you feel a little more put-together in your leggings or flowy maxi skirt.

Top, Joe Fresh

Belt, Danier

Shoes, Payless

 3. A Night Out

To me, date night or a night out on the town is a fun event, and so I think your outfit should follow suit.  Now is the time to wear all the things you can’t wear to work on a daily basis: leggings, tighter fitting clothing, or denim.  It’s also the perfect opportunity to throw on a glitzy piece of statement jewelry, and hit the town!

Leggings, Mark by Avon

Top, Bluenotes

Jacket, American Eagle

Shoes, Nine West

Chapters

Aside from being a bookstore with a great atmosphere, Indigo has also seriously upped their style-game in recent years.  Carrying brands such as Kate Spade, Matt & Nat, and Dogeared, they now offer purses, scarves, and jewelry that give fashion boutiques a run for their money.

For those of you who know me, you’re thinking, “another necklace Elyse?!”, but one look at this beauty and I’m sure you agree, it deserves a good home.  Did I also mention that it was on sale for $9.80?! ( It’s still available online here, in case you’d like to give one a home, too.)

In fact, it also pairs perfectly with another recent favourite of mine: The Body Shop Colour Crush Lipstick (mine is in #205, a matte “Passionate Pink”).
